Gear purchases for the rock climbing beginner

For those of you that think of exercise and immediately cringe at the thought of those spinning machines and treadmills in a stuffy gym, try expanding your mind and the definition you use for what exercise is. While the weather's nice and the trees are full of life, why not take the initiative and enjoy an outdoor activity like rock climbing.

What most people don't realize is that these kinds of fun outings are just as much if not more physical activity than anything you can do inside. The best part is that when you're busy scaling a crag-filled rock wall you likely won't think to yourself, "wow, I'm exercising". It's too much fun for that.

The only difference between those indoor grind sessions and the great outdoor rock climbing sport is that when you get ready to climb a rock wall, you'd better be prepared for costs associated with the sport. It's not cheap and that's mainly because of the safety requirements you'll want to see to immediately. If you don't you'll find yourself in a situation that might cause you great physical harm.

And so, for any newly minted rock climbers out there, the first step in your great outdoor adventure is the purchase of some new gear. Not only is that gear built to hold your weight and the pressure you're putting on it with your weight, it must hold for hundreds of feet and hundreds of different climbs.

Finding rock climbing gear is a simple task. Any major sporting goods store will have most of what you need. You can also get online and find your gear from online outlets or wholesale and discount storefronts. The price of your gear will likely range from as low as $30 for couplings to $1200 for high quality harnesses and tethers. Unless you're absolutely sure what you need and what size you are, you should consider an in store purchase first. You'll want to make sure everything you buy fits as well as possible.

You might be faced with the decision of what kind of gear to purchase and which pieces are most important. First of all, everything is equally important, but one thing many people don't pay quite as much attention to is the importance of rock climbing shoes. The grip they offer is second to none and you'll need every bit of grip when climbing a sheer rock face and your life is on the line.

The rest of your gear is largely self-explanatory, but taking a good class and spending your time in a store front is vital to making sure you don't forget anything. You'll want every bit of rope, clasp, harness, and hook you'll need when you set out or you might find yourself in danger when there's no need to be.

Another important aspect which has arisen in recent years when choosing your gear is the environmental impact you leave on the rocks you are climbing. There is a bit of a push of late to move to clean climbing practices by not drilling bolts or hammering pitons into the rock. These important tools have long been used as anchors for keeping you attached to that great big rock face above the ground. However, recent developments such as spring-loaded camming devices have made them less necessary.

When you take your climbing classes, make sure to ask about clean climbing and the differences from plain old sport climbing. Rock climbing is a wonderful sport that millions enjoy around the world every year. It's effective in keeping you fit and fun all the while. However, make sure when you set out that you know exactly what you need and the effect you'll be having on the environment in the process.

Tips on street fighting not fighting at all

These days its hardly surprising to find oneself having to fight strangers in the streets. So one really have to learn some tricks to win the fights in any way that you can, otherwise you wil surely be left with some black eye, dislocated wrists, and also concussion.

Like always best solution to win a street fight is to avoid one. It will be great if a dispute is resolved without any brawls and yes, better not let your treacherous ego cloud your common sense. In violent confrontations, make sure to be neutral and calm; apologize, even if its not your fault or the opponent is a regular no gooder and yes, do so in a confident manner. If he persists, clearly tell him to back off. Never let your opponent get near you and don't be a fool and let him hit you first. As he nears, change your stance in a fighting position and just slam your outstretched open hand into his face. This is a great tactic to disorient the opponent. Well if you have to punch, keep your hand, wrist, and two largest in a straight line, and punch with those two knuckles as hard and fast as possible. Follow this with swift kicks to the knees or groin areas. However unless you are a good puncher, better not pound unnecessarily.

Best tactic is non punch hand strikes and palm strikes against the side of the head and neck. Also low kicks aimed at shins, ankles, the insides of calves is very effective. And yep, all those scratching, biting, clawing, spitting, hair pulling hair are good too. Remember you are in a street fight and that too with a rowdy aggressor, so don't think about rules, just think about your safety.

Know your limit too. Alone and fighters ganging up on you? Well run! Its not cowardice, its safety actually. A winner always knows when to quit.

Also always keep at a distance from your opponent, say about twice the arm's length. Experts opine that staying close limits your opponent's ability to land painful punches. As a matter of fact, keep on the opponents side and not directly in front of him. Also those involved in street fights with more than one opponent, make sure to move in such a way as to keep them in each other's way. Staying between them is fatal!

Make sure to attack any vulnerable spot. Also just blocking an opponent with your arms or legs leaves the rest of your body in the way. And yes, punches and hits in the face, throat, temples will incapacitate your opponent making them blury and howling in pain, and disorientated for sometime, enough seconds for you to make an exit.

When involved in these street fights, unless you are a mean fighter, you will be punched to a pulp. So the best tip to win the fight is to impede your opponents as much as possible, use sand, dirt, mace, or other sprays on the eyes, thereby you can run. Fighting should be the last resort, and if you can talk your way out of a fight that's one real winner too.

Netherlands casinos

Although there have been casinos in Europe for over two centuries, most of them were historically situated in resorts and spa towns in countries like France and Germany, as well as Monte Carlo. Netherlands casinos are, by this timescale, a more recent innovation; although discussion about setting up casinos began in earnest after the Second World War, the first casino was not set up until the mid-1970's. Nowadays, though, there are thirteen Netherlands casinos, with plans for a further six, and they are increasingly becoming attractive destinations for foreign visitors to the country.

The first Netherlands casino was built at Zandvoort, on the Dutch coast, in 1976, and was followed by similar venues at Valkenburg and then the coastal resort of Scheveningen. This casino was the largest such facility on the West coast of Europe in its time, although it has since moved to a new building nearby. Aside from these trailblazers, casinos were built throughout Holland during the 1980's at Breda, Nijmegen, and Groningen, and established in the Netherlands' two main cities, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, in 1991 and 1993, respectively.

This trend has continued in recent years, bringing casino facilities to all corners of this small and picturesque country. Although it is now commonplace, it was not until 1995, that Schiphol Airport became the first in the world to house a casino, and the completion of a new venue in Venlo brings to 13 the number of Netherlands casinos, with more expected to follow in the next few years. The largest of these is Holland Casino Utrecht, which has 83 tables and over 1,000 slot machines and video games of various kinds.

All Netherlands casinos are owned and operated by Holland Casino, which holds sole rights to run legal casinos in the country. Although Holland Casino runs extremely professional gambling facilities, there is speculation that this monopoly will soon be relaxed, in order to open up the Dutch casino market to competition, with all the benefits to customers that it brings. Additionally, online casinos are now increasingly popular among Dutch citizens, and it is anticipated that this sector will continue to grow in coming years.

All told, Netherlands casinos welcome some 5 million visitors per year through their doors and are fast becoming an essential part of the tourist experience for all travelers to Holland, offering professional service and pleasant ambience in comfortable surroundings, whether you are in Holland for a long stay or just passing the time in Amsterdam's busy Schiphol Airport.

Sweden casinos

The Scandinavian country of Sweden, famous for its forests and lakes, in addition nowadays offers a wide range of choice for those looking to test their skill and luck in the casino. There are four Sweden casinos; all owned by the Cosmopol chain, located one apiece in the cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo and Sundsvall. These international-standard casinos have revolutionized gambling in the country.

The largest of the Sweden casinos is appropriately to be found in Sweden's largest city and the capital, Stockholm. The Casino Cosmopol Stockholm, located on Kungsgatan 65, offers a huge 37,674 square feet of international-style gambling opportunities, open seven days a week from 1pm to 5am. There are three hundred slot machines and 31 - yes, you read that correctly - gaming tables. Gamblers have six games to choose from, Roulette, Black Jack, Caribbean Stud Poker, other poker games (Texas Hold'em, Omaha and 7 Card Stud), Punto Banco, and Sic Bo, a Chinese dice game. Bets can be between 50 krona and 5,000 krona for most games, though some, such as Sic Bo, allow bets up to 14,400 krona. For those who like to pit their skills against other in tournaments, there are four international standard poker tournaments played at the Cosmopol Stockholm throughout the year. For when one is tired of gambling, there are three restaurants and bars in which to unwind.

The same chain owns the three other casinos which offer a similar experience to the Stockholm location. In Sweden's second city, Gothenburg, the Cosmopol is located in the old customs house at Packhusplatsen 7. It is open from 1pm to 4am and offers 240 gaming machines and 29 tables. It also gives guests the choice of three restaurants, the Casanova, the Castor (which serves Latin American cuisine), and the Jackpot Bar. In Malmo the casino is also open from 1am to 4am, and enjoys the setting of the 'King's Park', a famous local entertainment venue. The branch in Sundsvall, the smallest casino in the smallest of these four cities, still offers 3,500 square feet and 135 slot machines with ten table games, including 'Wheel of Fortune' a game similar to Roulette. It is aptly located at Casinoparken 1

For those who like to conduct their gambling outside of Sweden casinos, horse-racing offers another outlet for that betting nature. There are two racecourses of renown, the Taby Racecourse, in Stockholm, and the Sundbyholms Travet, in Eskilstuna.

The uefa champions league is the ultimate soccer competition

L’Equipe a French sports journalist initiated the “European Cup” in the year of 1955. The tournament was formally known as “The European Cup” and was renamed “The UEFA Champions League” during the 1992-1993 season. The competition is now managed by the Union of European Football Association (UEFA). It is a seasonal competition where 32 of the best clubs from all over Europe compete to become the best soccer club in the whole of Europe. The clubs compete to achieve the most coveted title in football, “The European Champion Clubs Cup” as it is now known. The matches take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays all around Europe. The winners of this tournament qualify for the International Cup, which is played against the winners of South America’s official league “Copa Libertadores”. Real Madrid CF was the first team to win the European Cup, since then they have won the league eight times. This includes the five consecutive wins from 1955-1956 to 1959-1960.

So what is it that makes the tournament so special?

The top domestic clubs of every European country that are members of the UEFA are allowed to play the game. The only country not participating in the competition has been Liechtenstein, as they do not have a domestic league.

The game has evolved a lot since L’Equipe initiated it. He wanted to have an all-European club competition while the UEFA’s founder members wanted to have an all-European national competition. In 1992-1993 not only did the name of the tournament change, the way it was organized was also different. An initial group stage was introduced in addition to the knockout matches, and a qualifying round was introduced. This was done so that more teams from other nations of Europe could participate. The number of teams participating shot up from eight teams to thirty-two teams. Now, even clubs that finish from second to fourth in the most competitive domestic leagues are also eligible to participate in the tournament. UEFA coefficient is the basis on which the associations are ranked. This is done to obtain the number of places in the competition for every association.

The tournament is divided into stages:

The group stage: qualifying stage.

The knockout stage: second round, quarter, semi and the finals.

The group stage consists of eight groups each comprising of four teams. In the group stages the teams have to qualify against three other teams to make it to the top of the group. The first and second teams in each group qualify to play the second round, which is a knockout round. Each team has to play twice, (once at home and once away) at every stage except the finals. The final does not have the two-leg system. The venue for the final is decided by UEFA two years in advance.

The introduction of the group stages helped clubs and players alike to learn and understand the way clubs and players of various other nations played soccer.

Why do people love to watch the UEFA Champions League?

The UEFA Champions League is the best place where millions of people get to watch their favourite players like Cristiano Ronado, Ronaldinho, Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, well known as Kaka in action. People not only get to watch their favorite players but they also get to watch the best clubs from all over Europe compete against each other throughout the year.

Baseball anyone

How it all began

What comes into your mind when you hear the word baseball? For those of you who have been in a real baseball event would it lead you to think of a huge stadium, an open field, the heat of the sun, the cheer of crowds, the cracking of the bat as it hits the ball, or the shout of the umpire of what decision he has for the teams? For those of you who in anyway have not experienced being in a baseball game but have seen it through sports channels or heard it on the radio or viewed it online, you might also have the same perception of the game. For those who are not into baseball but may have had the chance to observe a game or two, it might be obvious that the spectator watches two teams playing against each other, there is a presence of a pitcher, a batter, an umpire or referee and the people guarding the bases. If that spectator figures out the way of scoring then he might have probably learned the basics of the sport.

In the context of an in depth look at the sport itself, only a few people, minus the avid baseball fans and players would even care to understand who thought about it, where it came from and where it is most popular at as a sport…

Baseball, which can be classified as a game of bat and ball and which is also sometimes identified as hard ball to differentiate it from a similar game known as softball (a more compact version of the game) can be traced back to accounts of being an evolved version of the game called rounders, which was said to have originated in Great Britain and Ireland dating back to as early as the 17th century. There are similar accounts about the existence of the game but the pioneering full documentation of baseball in North America was by Dr. Adam Ford in his modern description of the game that took place on June 4, 1838 in Beachville, Ontario. It was on June 19, 1846 in Hoboken, New Jersey that the first game of baseball in U. S. history was officially recorded with the New York Nine defeating the Knickerbockers in a 23-1 four innings game.

Today, Baseball is recognized as the national sport of the United States. The sport also has spread its popularity, is being patronized and played in most of the American regions, the Caribbean and East Asia.

Buying used canoes made easy

When choosing a used canoe to purchase some of the more important considerations you will have to make are the uses you expect out of your canoe. When you have that in tow, you can then look at the following to make sure you get your money’s worth when seeking a canoe to purchase.

1. What Use Will Your Canoe Be For – The type of canoe you snag off the used market has to meet a certain need. Canoes vary greatly from one another. If you really want a canoe you should have considered where you will use it.

There are different canoes for different occasions. Canoeing with the family through gentle waters and white water canoeing are two vastly different uses needing vastly different types of canoes.

When you have decided upon the use, you can then browse for the canoe that meets your need. For example if you plant to go white water then you will need a canoe that can take the punishment of the violent rapids.

For this type of canoeing you will need short and sturdy canoes. They should be able to withstand hitting against rocks at an amazing speed while remaining maneuverable. If you plan to race you will need narrow canoes that are both light and long. Racing canoes have to be streamlined and fast that’s why you will need such.

Long canoes are faster and are great for straight line maneuvering. They also track through the water better. They however are harder to maneuver – which makes them the worst pick for white water rapids. They can also be hard to store and transport.

Camping canoes are wide and pretty long, not to mention pretty heavy. But as they always say, to each his own. So just make sure that your canoe fits your needs.

2. Pick a hull shape – Rounded and V-shaped hulls are great performers in the water and they always do better than flat hulled canoes. While flat-bottomed canoes initially feel more stable, as the canoe tracks on, you will see that initial stability is relatively unimportant to overall stability and maneuverability.

Also when buying a canoe look closely if they have keels. Keels are fin-like structures that run the bottom of the canoe. They are built there to help with the steering of a craft. However, in the case of canoes, they actually hinder steering instead. So try to avoid keels if possible.

3. Watch the Tumblehome - . Tumblehomes are the curves at the sides of the canoe that give extra strength to the canoe, especially when you consider the rather insipid strength of usual canoe building materials. Tumblehomes make paddling easier since it gives you good position to paddle. However, too much tumblehome can cause the canoe to capsize.

If you plan to go to deep waters avoid too much tumblehome. It may make your canoe hard to stabilize.

Also, you will want to consider the depth of your canoe. While a good foot of space will do for most situations, those that brave wild waters will want a few inches added so that the canoe does not readily take in water.

4. Where to Search? – The internet is a great place to look for used canoes, and so are classified ads. Canoe enthusiasts may also have spare canoes they may want to part with. Just make sure you by now know what to look for in a canoe.

Conclusion

Good canoes can last a long, long time. This makes getting a good canoe early on very important. Happy hunting!

Energy drink market how long will it last

Energy drink market is amazingly growing and everyone knows it. With that, everyone would like to try it out for a change because they want to earn more profits in the business easily. The reason why energy drink market has increased is because people are after work for almost 24 hours in a day just to make a living.

A person cannot stand to work whole day without taking rest or sleep. Instead, they have relied upon energy drinks and made it as a part of their daily routine. People drink it almost everyday which contributed to the rise of the energy drink market.

And now, all the energy drink companies are trying real hard to come up with an energy drink that will give more energy and strength to their customers. There are even energy drinks made for women. Companies are concerned in improving their ingredients and contents to give the people the extra stamina that they want to work the day out without experiencing fatigue.

Some of the companies do not care about the ingredients that they include, not mentioning the side effects that it can bring to the human body. For them, as long as they are in the energy drink market and still competing, it’s worth the gamble. If you have tasted almost all of the energy drinks, you will notice that they all differ in flavoring and heating factor.

An energy drink company will usually claim the difference of their product but you will actually notice that the ingredients that they use are the same as the other brands. They all have the same ingredients; therefore, they all have same energy supplements to provide.

However, a lot of people ask if the energy drink market will face out because it might be proven to give hazards to the body. If doctors find out that it might cause serious diseases, it might be banned which will result to the vanishing of the energy drink market.

What if one company will stand out among the rest because it has been proven to be effective to the body? For sure, all the other energy drinks will die out and be left behind. Even the students try these energy drinks as their beverage to get their way to school and to play sports after classes.

The energy drink may not bring positive effects to people at a very young age so it is important that students must be precluded in taking them. Some of the ingredients might not be appropriate to their body structure especially caffeine. Doctors have also claimed that if young people drink too much energy drinks, they might cause their brain to get damaged at an early age.

So before you add up to the energy drink market, make sure that the product that you are patronizing is safe to the body and safe for all types of drinkers. Don’t just think of competing with the energy market, think of the welfare of the customers and think of their health. Try to come up with a solution to make energy drinks safe for the body and look for healthy ingredients. Think of everyone’s health.

Breaking better in pool

When a break is executed well on the pool table, it gives the player a better advantage over the other player. Also, when one is consistent in breaking well on the pool table, it results with the cue ball having a better striking position with the other balls. With this, the player gets a better choice of sending the other balls in the pockets with the next shot that he executes.

There are various ways which one can break in a billiard game. One needs to have good physics when striking the ball. Its believed that different pool tables might determine which break will turn out to be the best. Power and Speed are considered to be essential but don't forget that control is needed to handle the power that you put behind that shot.

With much practice, a player will be able to determine how to best make the shots. There are other tricks that one can use to improve their break on the billiard table and ultimately improve their overall game.

Power Break

Power is considered to be crucial and important just as having full contact with the first ball. Most pros in the billiard profession agree that a good break moves at about twenty miles per hour. If you can break faster than 20 mph then the better. In the billiard game the fastest break is considered to be at thirty miles per hour. Your break should be powerful enough but without losing control.

Tips on Achieving a Power Break

Their are various methods you can use to execute a power break. The important thing to note here is that you want a proper transfer of your body weight to help your shoulders and arm strength in wielding the break.

One good technique you can apply is by rocking your body back and forth which assists in transferring the weight from your front leg to the back leg. You might notice players lifting their front legs before they strike. This helps them to transfer their weight to their back leg and then stomp that front leg down on contact to do the reverse.

Breaking better on the 8/9 ball game

One technique you can use on the 8 ball game is to shoot the cue ball between the first ball and the thrid ball at a slight angle almost parallel to the triangle’s adjacent side. This is executed from a distance far enough to give the pool player enough space to transfer most power.

On the diamond 9 ball rack, its common to hit the head 1 ball parallel to one of its adjacent side. As you practice more and more on your break, you will discover which stance and power suits you best in as yo play to drop in the wing ball.

The Break Cue

Some billiard players cannot play without the break cue. As you use the break cue, the tip of the cue will get altered and deformed and with time you will need to to replace the tip because it will affect your game. The weight of the cue also matters a lot.

Most professional players usually go for lighter break cues. This is because when the cue is lighter, its much easier for the billiard player to wield it with more power and speed.

Muay thai combinations you need to know to win your fights

I've got a confession to make. I like watching science programs and nature programs. I recently watched a National Geographic special on The Science of the Punch and learned a lot about martial arts that I hadn't considered before. I learned that the single most powerful punch – by a factor of 30% - was from good old fashioned Western boxing. I saw a lot about transferring energy from the back leg through the core of the body that I'd known before, and some really cool stuff from ninjitsu that I'd never seen before. But what impressed me most of all was watching their section on Mauy Thai, and how some of the combinations in Mauy Thay deliver the ultimate combination of economy of motion and force to the body.

This inspired me to check out some Mauy Thai instructional videos. Yeah, yeah, it's Yoshi talking about Yet Another Couch Potato Style Kung Fu Style, right? Not quite. The thing about Muay Thai instructional DVDs, since Muay Thai is, effectively, a mixed martial arts full contact sport, is that the DVDs are really about bare bones practicality. They're not going to load you up with lots of "Contemplate the caterpillar weaving its cocoon" philosophy – they get straight on with it, covering stances, blocks and traps, and how to combine them into combinations.

Muay Thai words from three basic stances – the closed stance, which is used for kicks, the side stance, which is used for traps and setting up joint locks, and the horse stance, which is designed for powerful punches, and combinations. There's a lot of emphasis in the Muay Thai instruction DVDs on good stance and good footwork; you have to be able to go from a grab-and-pull to a head grab to a knee to the sternum, and for that you need good balance.

I'll be honest – I had an easier time with this one than most will; I've worked with Wing Chung Kung Fu and jiu jutsu for years, and a lot of the concepts transfer over well; most of what I got out of Muay Thai was the focus on pure pragmatism. It's entirely about taking the block and setting up the counterstrike, be it with knee, elbow, fist or foot. I could see from the Mauy Thai instructional DVD that I got that real Muay Thai practitioners get hit a lot – there's much more contact in the DVD than I'm used to seeing in training or sparring.

Following along, I got a good workout, and was really glad it was just me and a freestanding bag rather than me and some kid who's 10 years younger than me. Seriously, that Muay Thai instructional DVD made me feel my years. My knees were aching when I was done, and I was soaked. It was a good workout, like most martial arts training is. I can say this – I'd never try this with another person without some serious protective gear on me!

Laos casinos

Nestled between Thailand and Vietnam, Laos is one of the true jewels of Southeast Asia. Though some parts of it may not be as highly developed as its Indochina counterparts, there is one area where it has managed to keep up - casino gambling.

The Dansavanh Casino is located in Ban Muang Wa-Tha, Vientiane Province. This Laos casino brings in many jobs for the locals, who sometimes do not always have a chance to earn a living wage. The Dansavanh Casino is heavily reliant upon tourists in order to make money. Locals normally only work there and do not spend their wages on gambling. Because neighboring countries such as Thailand are littered with flashy, flamboyant casinos, Dansavanh Casino relies more on tourists from China, which borders Laos on the Northeastern tip (though they do get some Thai tourists in to gamble).

The Chinese government has always been very much against gambling, especially within its own borders. This is why places such as Laos can open up casinos and be instantly successful--gamblers from other countries. Because gambling is so taboo in China, the tourists flock to casinos in excitement to satisfy their curiosity, and they usually spend pretty big. Laos casinos have long benefited from this type of spending.

Recently, the Chinese government forbid their citizens to travel to other countries to gamble. This especially meant neighboring countries such as Thailand and Laos. Because Laos does rely so heavily on commerce with China for income, they agreed to enforce the ban. Though this greatly hurt the income of Dansavanh (amongst others), they are still open for tourists from other countries. It is also believed that many Chinese still come to Laos to gamble, but it is not always in big public Laos casinos, such as Dansavanh.

Casino gambling in Laos features many of the same games that you would find at any other casino around the world. Games such as blackjack, baccarat, roulette, slot machines, and video poker can be found in the casinos. You can even have private or public tables to play at, if you so desire.

Due to the beautiful resort communities and the ability to gamble within its borders, Laos will continue to be a force in the Southeast Asia tourist market. More beachfront properties and even resort casinos are in the planning and are likely to be opening in the near future. This provides not only entertainment, but also a source for jobs and government income for this underdeveloped nation.
